Meet the Team: Sander van Veggel, TRAVIS Account Executive Partner
In this series, we will introduce members of Team TRAVIS to you, so you can get to know the people behind the fastest growing road services network in Europe. This episode features Sander van Veggel, one of our most experienced Account Executives.
Who are you?
My name is Sander van Veggel, and I am 25 years old. I was born and raised in Moergestel, and I live in Berkel-Enschot, where I just moved into my new house two months ago! When I was sixteen, I took my first job at a transport company driving a terminal tractor and moving around trailers on the company premises. I liked it so much that I got my truck license and became a truck driver. I drove containers from the Port of Rotterdam to locations across the Benelux and, on occasion, to places further away. After a year on the road, I was asked to join the planning department, so I switched my truck for a desk. I worked at a rail terminal planning the pickup from containers at the Port and their delivery further inland.
I’ve also always been involved in the family business. My father is the founder of V&R Services, a company with two truck wash locations in the Tilburg area, the webshop allesvoorjetruck.nl (everything for your truck) and of course: TRAVIS! I didn’t hesitate when he asked me how my German was five years ago. I took a speed course to brush up my German and joined TRAVIS as an account executive partner for the German market.
What does an Account Executive Partner do at TRAVIS?
Well, at TRAVIS, we have two sales teams. One team is responsible for adding transport companies and other companies with their own fleets as new customers to the platform called the Fleet team. The other sales team works on expanding our network of road services by identifying and adding new partners to our network: the Partner team. I am an account executive in the Partner team. My main markets are Germany, Austria and Denmark, and I also manage requests from and for countries where TRAVIS is not active yet.
As one of the most experienced account executives, I also train new account executives on our products and our propositions, and I help them map the network they are developing. TRAVIS is growing fast. We regularly add people to our sales teams.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Typical, ha! Not a day is the same. There is so much to do from the moment you walk into the office! There are always new requests from customers or partners or new ideas to work on. Never a dull moment. My main focus is adding new partners to the network, so that’s my main focus most days. I do a lot of research via the internet and talk to my network. After that, I start making calls and try to explain the benefits of our platform to potential partners, trying to convince them to join. We have many partners in my region, so a large part of my time is also spent answering questions and solving issues that our partners may have. We are moving the account management of existing partners to our customer support team, which will give me more time to work on expanding the network.
I’m also involved in projects to improve our internal processes to support our customers and partner better and develop new features for our platform.
What do you find most challenging in your work?
Companies offering road services are traditional companies and may not directly see the benefits of digitalizing their processes and putting their company on the TRAVIS network. Even when they say no after the first conversation, I see it as a challenge to get them onboard, and those are my favourite ones to close. TRAVIS is one of the first online platforms for road service partners, and it is a lot of fun to talk with these partners and give them a solution to their problems – whether they knew they had them or not!
What do you do when you are not at work?
Currently, I spend most of my time working on my new house, finishing up the last things, if work on your house is ever finished. I also enjoy being out on the town and having drinks or dinner with friends. I also enjoy going to the gym several times a week to compensate for those good times.
Next to my work at TRAVIS, I also like to help out with the other companies my father started, whether helping out at the truck wash or the odd job at the webshop. Family is important to me. I love spending time with my brothers and sisters.
What do you like most about working at TRAVIS?
The transport industry. Transport is the best sport, haha! I get to work with large brands like Amazon, Shell, and DKV, prominent players in the industry. When you work at TRAVIS, you get a lot of trust, responsibility, and freedom to act on your ideas, which I love. And my colleagues. I have colleagues from many different countries and cultural backgrounds. I learn something new and interesting, talking to them every day.
